Interested in an author visit to your school? Dr. Bennett offers “interactive readings” of his award-winning children’s books. These are assemblies in which he reads the main story (for one book) while incorporating science-based interactives and time for Q&A. Kids (and teachers) love it!
- Dr. Bennett has visited more than 200 schools to date, which means that at least about 100,000 students have attended one of his assemblies.
- See sample videos of his presentations here.
Details
Dr. Bennett generally offers two assemblies, one for lower grades (e.g., grades K-2 or K-3) and one for upper grades (e.g., grades 3-5 or 4-6). Each assembly is typically 45 minutes (but can be a bit shorter for the lower grades) to allow time both for the interactive presentation and Q&A. Large schools (>500 students) may request an additional assembly. Notes:
- To ensure efficient use of his time, Dr. Bennett requests that schools commit to having all grade levels and classes attend his program. Teachers should plan to attend with their students, both to help maintain discipline and so they will be prepared to build on the assembly experience when they return to the classroom.
- Please be sure your facility can accommodate the assembly size with a screen and powerpoint projection. It is best if students can be seated on the floor (as opposed to in chairs), both for efficient use of space and because of some of the interactive exercises that Dr. Bennett will ask students to engage in.
- While he is open to doing programs based on any of his children’s books, for the 2022/23 and 2023/24 academic years, Dr. Bennett plans to focus the assemblies on Max Goes to the Moon for grades K-2 and on Totality! An Eclipse Guide in Rhyme and Science for grades 3-5.

“Everybody Wins” Book Sale Based School Visits
For those who are not part of a completely free visit as above… Recognizing limited school budgets, Dr. Bennett offers schools the opportunity to have a “free” visit, meaning no impact to the school budget, through book sales to students, families, and teachers. Everybody wins because the school gets a free visit, kids get autographed books, and Dr. Bennett gets the satisfaction of knowing kids will be reading his books. More than 90% of the schools Dr. Bennett has visited have taken advantage of this option. Here’s how it works:
- The fee/book schedule is posted on Dr. Bennett’s main Events page; scroll down to see it.
- If you are doing the book purchase option, you may send home an order form provided by Dr. Bennett (see sample), in which you offer students the opportunity to purchase autographed, personalized copies of Dr. Bennett’s books.
- Contact Dr. Bennett directly for scheduling or more information. This checklist for schools that schedule visits may also be helpful.
